The Role

Introduction
Wind Prospect and its sister business Nevis Environmental, are looking to recruit staff to the Environmental Services team. Established in 2012, the team has a variety of commission’s underway working on projects at preconstruction to operational phase. From our base in Cockermouth, Cumbria or Inverness, Scottish Highlands, we provide support to renewable energy or infrastructure projects across the UK.
Wind Prospect is one of the most successful independent renewable energy developers in the world. We have played a major role in the development of wind energy onshore internationally. Wind Prospect has been involved in the wind industry since its inception in Europe, and is a major player in the wind energy sector in the UK, Ireland, France, Poland, South Africa, China and Australia.
Nevis Environmental is our environmental business, providing support to renewable or infrastructure clients under a separate brand. From our experience in operating in the onshore wind sector for the past 15 years, we have a wealth of knowledge and experience in delivery of environmental projects.
 

Environmental Services
Our environmental services team either as the Wind Prospect or Nevis Environmental brands provides environmental support to projects during preconstruction to operational phases. We have a variety of clients from large utilities to small developers and with the variety of work being undertaken. Our work is increasing and as a consequence we are looking to appoint staff to support this growing area of the business.
Roles being made available will provide technical and management support to projects with particular focus on the natural environment and the supervision of construction/operational projects within it. The roles offered can be at any of our locations supported by our environmental services team, this being Cockermouth, Lancaster or Inverness.
 

JOB PURPOSE/PRIMARY OBJECTIVES
The primary role is to assist in the delivery of environmental projects including planning, organisation and delivery of assignments, liason with clients and other stakeholders and to ensure projects and assignments meet the requirements of all.
Conduct a supervisory and technical role within the team, delivering preconstruction, construction and operational phase assignments for environmental activities including onshore wind and renewables projects.
Provide sound and professional environmental or ecology advise to internal project teams or clients.

 

KEY TASKS/DUTIES

Pre Construction Duties

  • Undertake the coordination, management and implementation of environmental activities and tasks alongside other project team members and consultants.
  • Represent the client and project stakeholders at meetings with statutory consultees and others.
  • Undertake liaison with legal, professional and technical bodies associated with environmental and planning matters during the pre construction phase of projects.
  • Manage and coordinate the discharge of planning conditions, consents and other agreements with statutory consultees and others as required for project work.
  • Manage and contribute to the production of technical documents including habitat management plans, environmental management plans alongside other project team members and appointed consultants.

 

Site / Construction Duties

  • Undertake inspections and audits along side other project team members to ensure the projects are constructed in accordance with the consents, commitments and expectations of the statutory bodies.
  • Undertake routine reporting on the site activities and compliance
  • Provide proper professional and practical advice to contractors, consultants and project team members associated with habitat, mammals, flora and fawna issues and where appropriate resolve issues in a practical and efficient way.

 

Operational Duties

  • Continued liaison with consenting authorities and clients in respect to planning and environmental compliances on site
  • Manage and coordinate habitat management activities, restoration works or other site projects during the operational phase of the project.
  • Commissioning follow up studies and reports with external consultants.
  • Undertaking environmental audits and inspections as required.
  • Project Management
  • Liaison with clients, stakeholder and statutory consultees.
  • Tendering, appointment and management of other environmental or planning consultants.
  • Assist with programme, cost budgets and progress reporting in respect to planning and environmental matters.
  • Support in improvement of procedures and systems associated with ISO 14001 accreditation within the group and business unit.
  • Development of key business activities in relation to environmental management and planning support during wind farm life-cycle across the UK.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Personal skills/Attributes

  • Strong project management skills.
  • Excellent communication, report writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Organised, thorough and diligent.
  • Full driving licence.


Education and qualifications

  • BSc / MSc in Environmental Management or Environmental Science.
  • Evidence of continued professional development and learning
  • Previous experience gained in a consultancy or public body and have demonstrable skills in planning, technical report writing and working with statutory bodies will be of an advantage.
  • Experience in the construction industry is preferred but not a pre-requisit.

The salary is negotiable, depending upon experience and qualifications.
