Description

You will support the Regional Environment Advisor (REA) in the delivery of objectives of the Regional strategic plan for habitats, species and cultural heritage. You will lead on practical site specifications within your area and technical category, and will manage the Environment Ranger(s), ensuring the provision of habitats, species and heritage advice and support for regional staff and stakeholders. Tasks specific to the role will vary from providing advice to the Planning and Programme Teams, creating tactical mitigation approaches for the Delivery Teams, supporting the restoration processes for PAWS and peatland, and managing conservation data and budgets. Partnership working with national colleagues and outside organisations is also a key element of this role.

Management

  • Line manage area Environment Ranger(s) and report to the Regional Environment Advisor.
  • Lead by example on health, safety and wellbeing issues, promoting a health and safety culture in all aspects of the role.

Provide Environmental Advice and Support

  • Provide specialist advice on the protection and management of species, habitats, and cultural heritage features.
  • Contribute to the creation of a programme or specification of work associated with the long-term improvement of plantations on ancient woodland sites (PAWS) and native woodlands, designated sites, open habitats, and water quality in line with FLS national policies, and in sensitive situations through the creation of conservation management plans.
  • Input to the development of Land Management Plans, Work Plans and Work Programmes, ensuring environment (ecological and historical) considerations are taken in to account and develop mitigations and licence applications, as appropriate. This includes the creation of and seeking approval for SSSI Management Plans and management regimes for Scheduled Ancient Monuments.
  • Liaison with stakeholders as required, to develop an expert opinion on plans that involve cultural and natural heritage features and implement conservation initiatives.
  • Contribute positively to team discussions and regional activities providing in-house talks and training to other functions.

Environmental Programming

  • Work with Forest Planners and Programme Managers to plan and specify environmental projects and programmes for delivery, providing on site advice and monitoring.
  • Input into the forward Environment and Heritage budget plans, manage budget spend, and update internal financial planning programmes.
