Description

PFA-Brussels is active in the chemical industry and is in urgent need of a qualified ecotoxicologist (m/f) to join its growing team. The firm is a scientific consultancy that provides technical and policy support for the chemicals industry. It works with a great diversity of stakeholders, such as regulatory authorities, government organisations, and related manufacturing industries. Throughout the years, the company has developed an in-depth expertise on chemical hazard, risk, and control measures. It focuses on 3 main activities: strategic needs – such as risk management and authorization – chemicals policy – the development of policy and strategy on substances – and EU cosmetics and biocides – a Strategic support for EU cosmetics and biocides regulatory compliance.

The ecotoxicologist will develop the activities of the company and lead on current projects. More specifically, he/she will provide expertise in environmental science in some but not all areas: partition, solubility, biotic and abiotic degradation, aquatic ecotoxicology, terrestrial ecotoxicology. He/she will furthermore review study protocols and reports, write summaries of laboratory studies and produce text for reports.

Profile

• A Master degree or PhD with good knowledge in assessing the effects of chemicals on aquatic species, (desk-based training will be provided as necessary).

• An excellent knowledge of technical English is essential. Any other European language would be an advantage.

• A good understanding of chemistry, especially environmental fate, is highly desirable.

• The applicant should be self-reliant and confident because work at the offices of clients is probable, in addition to participation in meetings and telephone conferences.

• A wider interest in developing environmental issues and also the sources and fate of chemicals in the environment is necessary for development in the job.

• The successful applicant will be objective in every way, able to assess scientific evidence and to present it clearly to colleagues and clients (who come from both industry and regulatory bodies) and would join a small but growing team of technical experts in central Brussels, with support from, and contact with, a wider group of experts and support staff in the UK.

• Availability to start during the first quarter of 2018 will be a distinct advantage.

The company offers a 1-year fixed term contract potentially followed by an indefinite term contract; full-time with flexible hours (38h).

You will receive an attractive and competitive salary package, including meal vouchers, laptop, mobile phone, public transportation subscription.
