Ecosystem Services Officer

BirdLife International is the world’s largest nature conservation partnership. Through our unique local-to-global approach, we deliver high impact and long-term conservation for the benefit of nature and people.

 

We are looking for someone to lead and develop the science underpinning BirdLife’s work on ecosystem services, providing technical support for the BirdLife Partnership.  

 

BirdLife’s work on ecosystem services focuses on using ecosystem service assessments to improve conservation outcomes, primarily by applying the Toolkit for Ecosystem Service Site-based Assessments (TESSA). This person will support the implementation of ongoing BirdLife projects using TESSA and develop new initiatives that integrate ecosystem services and natural capital into BirdLife’s Programmes. Acting as the focal point for ecosystem services work across the BirdLife Secretariat, this role requires someone who can develop and maintain strong working relationships internally and externally, keep abreast of emerging best practice and scientific research and build the capacity of the Partnership in this work area.

 

The ideal candidate will have 

• Excellent understanding of ecosystem services, their assessment and application for improving conservation outcomes (especially in wetland habitats)

• Experience using methods (e.g. TESSA) for measuring multiple ecosystem services (e.g. water-related services, cultural services, provisioning services) at site-scale

• Confidence in handling and analysing scientific data

• Knowledge of global conservation issues

• Understanding of the concept of Natural Capital and its potential utility for helping to reduce biodiversity loss

• Fundraising experience 

• Capacity development experience 

• Excellent ability to write accurately and concisely in English 

• The right to work in the UK
