This project works closely with local communities to conserve threatened marine and coastal environments on a grassroots level. It fosters the protection of biodiversity and enriches the local community through environmental, educational, and social programs. Volunteer can take part in diving research and community outreach activities or if they prefer solely community outreach. Volunteer activities range from observing, monitoring, and reporting shark data to running recycled art workshops within the community.
The diving and community outreach project costs £365 for one month which includes but is not limited to: housing; scientific diving (up to five dives per week); transportation to/from dive site; some meals; Spanish classes; scientific educational workshops; discounts on fun activities. If you are not a certified diver but want to participate you can obtain your open water certification for £150. The community outreach package (without diving research activities) costs £285 for one month.
