Water Group is a dynamic, growing area of the Department that aims to provide more efficient and sustainable use of Australia’s water resources.  We are building an enthusiastic, motivated team to address the challenges we face in delivering the Government’s national water plan, Water for the Future. We are looking for motivated officers with strong program management, analytical, communication and teamwork skills, and the ability to think creatively. Water Group advises on policy and delivers programs that are at the centre of water reform in Australia.  Key objectives are; adapting to climate change, using water wisely, securing water supplies and improving the health of our rivers, waterways and freshwater ecosystems. Water for the Future involves $12.9 billion in funding over ten years. The Aquatic Systems Health Branch has duties relating to the following responsibilities within the Water Reform Group:·         the development of national policy on high conservation value aquatic ecosystems; ·         the sustainable management of the lake Eyre and Great Artesian Basins; ·         water quality issues in coastal and urban hotspots; ·         management of Australian wetlands and Australia’s obligations under the Ramsar Convention.  As part of this team the Wetlands Section, due to its workload, has been divided into two teams – one Director being responsible for Wetlands Projects and Programs and the other Director is responsible for Policy and Legislation. Both teams work closely together to make sure all wetlands issues are managed. The position has a wide variety of responsibilities which will provide the successful applicant with an interesting set of challenges.  Further information about our work is at http://www.environment.gov.au/water/index.html
