ABOUT THE JOB

Opower is seeking a Director to lead product strategy within the Marketing & Strategy group and partner with Product Development and other parts of the organization on the company’s overall product roadmap and evolution of the product portfolio. As part of this role, the Director will also be responsible for developing pitch materials and other collateral for Opower products, product launches, ownership of product pricing models and pricing strategy, product-related competitive and market research, and regular contributions to developing the company’s thought leadership. The team’s objectives are to strengthen Opower’s value proposition in current markets, expand our value proposition to new markets, uncover new product ideas, and ensure that the company continues to be an industry leader clearly differentiated from competitors.
This role requires a seasoned team leader and creative thinker with extensive experience in product marketing and corporate strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as Product Marketing lead across all product areas, taking full ownership for articulating and communicating the product value proposition and business case, determining product pricing, performing market and competitive analysis, developing marketing materials, executing product launches, and training client-facing teams
  • Be the expert on utility and partner needs now and in the future for product portfolio
  • Push forward, crystalize, and evangelize the company’s and industry’s thinking on key product-related topics, acting as a thought leader inside and outside the company
  • Have an informed point of view on where the industry is going (and why) along with where competition is headed or will emerge (and why)
  • Lead teams to quickly research new product opportunities, efficiently synthesize results, and present findings to senior management
  • Work closely with Product Management and Engineering leads on product investment decisions, feature prioritization, prototype development, and product roadmap
  • Articulate and evangelize the company’s external product vision and roadmap to clients, prospects, and other industry influencers
  • Evaluate build vs partner strategies, identify and vet potential partners, and collaborate with Business Development on partnership negotiations and execution
  • Mentor team members and build team capabilities
  • Create forums and processes to efficiently push and pull information across organization

ABOUT YOU

  • You have 10+ years of total work experience, preferably in clean-tech and/or the enterprise software industry, with at least 5+ years of product marketing and/or product management experience. Experience working across geographically-dispersed teams is a plus. Experience at B2B2C companies is also a plus.
  • You have a proven track record of working effectively with product development teams to create great products and successfully launch them into the market
  • You have a strong academic record with an MBA or equivalent experience
  • You have a passion for product marketing, an ability to communicate complex ideas in succinct and compelling ways, and are analytical yet creative
  • You're an outcome-oriented, quantitative and qualitative problem-solver who is comfortable with ambiguity and has superb pattern-recognition abilities, and can lead a team to complete complex projects under time-pressure
  • You are a gifted written and verbal communicator, and have experiencing managing multiple internal stakeholders in order to build consensus around complex ideas
  • You have experience managing and developing a team of high-horsepower individuals
  • You’re willing to roll up your sleeves and get things done on your own
