My client is a leading solar power plant developer, providing clean energy to utilities and large energy users. They build, develop, finance and operate  large scale power plants and have a strong market presence globally.

With subsidiaries in the US, Europe and Southeast Asia are continuously looking to grow and maintain their position as a market leader. They are now looking to recruit a Director of Government Affairs and New Market Development.

Position Overview:
Reporting to the CEO this position will be responsible for all aspects of managing critical development processes including permitting, transmission for large solar projects. They will also be responsible for Initiating government affairs and government business development efforts.

Responsibilities:-

  • ·         Develop government Sale/Lease and PPA programs for large-scale solar PV projects.
  • ·         Initiated Lobbying efforts in key markets.
  • ·         Develop deep, trusted professional relationships with customers
  • ·         Act as the primary contact between the customers, government bodies EPC and legal
  • ·         Attend project construction meetings and visit installations
  • ·         Understand and assist with customers’ long-term planning, strategy and needs.
  • ·         Participate in customer and industry related events.
  • ·         Remain current on all customer and industry related news and events.
  • ·         Stay current with governmental affairs and regulatory policy that affect the business and the customer
  • ·         Assist with new business development activities.
  • ·         Developing market strategy and positioning (determining strategy for defined segments and translating these into the overall corporate strategy for those segments)
  • ·         Identifying key decision makers within each potential partner organization
  • ·         Developing business development plans for each segment for presentation to senior management (directors, president etc)
  • Negotiating terms and closing deals
  • Working in conjuction with the development, sales and project finance teams

Education:-

  • ·         Strong educational background, undergraduate degree in business related field

Core Requirements:-

  • ·         Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in development, with a proven track record in the development of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects.
  • ·         Commercial  contract negotiation delivery experience
  • ·         Must have a strong understanding of technical matters, the ability to think in economic perspective and experience of project development
  • ·         Good understanding of regulatory requirements in the solar industry
  • ·         Strong leadership qualities
  • ·         Excellent commercial experience
  • ·         Project and time management skills
  • ·         Must have repeated success negotiating PPAs with utilities
  • ·         Needs to understand permitting, site acquisition, interconnection, project management, deal negotiation, financial modeling of renewable deals etc.

General Requirements:-

  • ·         Willingness to travel to sites around the US
  • ·         Ability to manage multiple projects in an environment of constantly changing priorities
  • ·         Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and detecting realistic solutions
  • ·         Proven ability to communicate across all levels of an organization
  • ·         Ability to manage multiple projects

Ability to manage a multi-cultural workforce

Key Skills:

Solar PV, strong business related background, experience in the development of commercial and large-scale solar PV projects , experience in dealing with government affairs, team leadership and complex stakeholder and customer management experience, ability  to create an grow a new business or function.
