Climate Central seeks a highly entrepreneurial individual with significant private-sector experience to lead our nascent “Enterprise” initiative. We seek late-junior-to-mid-career candidates, or senior candidates eager to contribute to a critical cause. Through this initiative, Climate Central seeks to sell our best-in-class climate-impacts data and related services, simultaneously generating a growing stream of revenue to build up our mission-driven programmatic work, while also directly helping communities and companies worldwide to enhance their resilience to climate change. Top candidates will have a track record of success in the business world, the ability to engage in depth regarding our highly quantitative and science-based work products, and genuine enthusiasm for working with Climate Central’s mission-focused program staff, including those in our internationally recognized sea-level rise program. Initially, Enterprise products will be grounded in Climate Central’s sea-level rise program. Our peer-reviewed sea-level rise research has been downloaded more than 100,000 times. Our research, web tools and expert perspectives have appeared in more than 10,000 stories in publications ranging from the New York Times and national TV news to China Daily and The Hindu. Our web assets have won more than 100 million page views, including wide and extensive use of our online tools by NGOs and governments at every level. Our key datasets include an AI-based global coastal digital elevation model far more accurate than comparable datasets produced by NASA, the Japanese aerospace agency, and other research groups, which grossly underestimate coastal flood exposure both today and tomorrow, as sea levels continue to rise. We see value here for direct sales to researchers and others. The data also put us in a unique position to assess coastal risks globally and in key geographies such as Asia – risks to the facilities, portfolios and other interests of major corporations, development banks, the insurance industry, real estate investors, bond investors, and others. Other Enterprise opportunities tied to current capabilities include marketing current and future coastal flood risk indices; real estate value projections; software and online tools and maps for consultants, governments, and others to explore threats and solutions; high-tech flood and sea level visualizations; and consulting. Over time, we aim to add climate risks beyond coastal ones. The Director of Enterprise will be responsible for shaping all elements of the new program, from developing a business plan to executing it and building a team as revenues grow. He/she will lead business development and identify opportunities to build additional products that suit customer needs, working closely with our ace data analysts and programmers. He/she will need to develop a deep familiarity with our datasets and analytic methods. The Director of Enterprise will report to the Vice President for Programs, and will also work closely with Climate Central’s CEO, who founded its sea level program. Climate Central is a respected nonprofit and non-advocacy organization dedicated to researching and publicizing key findings on climate science, impacts and solutions. Our scientists and communicators work together to reach large and important audiences using all tools at our disposal – including, through the Enterprise Initiative, sales of data and related services to the private sector (developers, insurance companies, real estate), investors, governments at all levels, intergovernmental organizations such as international development banks, impact investors, philanthropists, academics, and other users. Responsibilities: Generate a significant and growing revenue stream that will support continued growth of both the Enterprise initiative and Climate Central’s mission-driven programming, by:
