Ocean Conservancy is a nonprofit organization that educates and empowers citizens to take action on behalf of the ocean. From the Arctic to the Gulf of Mexico to the halls of Congress, Ocean Conservancy is leading the search for solutions to protect our water planet. Founded in 1972, Ocean Conservancy has emerged as a trusted voice in its advocacy for the ocean that is essential to all life and provides much of the food we eat, water we drink and air we breathe.

FISH CONSERVATION PROGRAM:
Ocean Conservancy’s Fish Conservation Program is a dynamic, multi-faceted initiative focused on achieving sustainable fisheries in our nation’s waters with an emphasis on the Gulf of Mexico. Ocean Conservancy has played a key leadership role in transitioning our nation’s fisheries towards a sustainable future. Past accomplishments include securing significant improvements to our nation’s fisheries management laws in 1996 and 2007, transitioning regional fisheries to long-term sustainability through the adoption of sciencebased management plans that end overfishing and restore depleted populations, bycatch reduction measures and protection of essential fish habitats. We will continue this leadership role by working at both the national and regional level ensuring the development and implementation of laws and policies consistent with sustainable fisheries and healthy oceans through the development of science-based conservation policies and practices, implementation of incentive-based measures, ensuring accountability within the fishery management system and building support among fishery stakeholders, decision-makers and the public.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director is responsible for leading Ocean Conservancy’s Fish Conservation Program. This includes ensuring overall program effectiveness, providing the Fish Conservation team with the strategic direction, resources and guidance needed to achieve program objectives, fiduciary oversight of multi-million dollar grants, integration with other Ocean Conservancy programs and functions and promoting Ocean Conservancy as a conservation leader. The Director will also work in coordination with conservation science and policy staff to identify, develop and advance relevant national and regional laws and policies and will work with government relations, outreach and communications experts to build strong public support and political will for action.
