The Director, Finance and Operations, in the Science + Knowledge (S+K) division of Conservation International, a global environmental organization, leads the implementation of S+K financial management. This includes budget planning, performance monitoring, overall donor compliance, and internal financial allocations. The Director ensures that S+K is in compliance with CI policies and procedures, donors, accounting and reporting standards. The Director oversees the work of the financial coordinators and managers in S+K in developing and managing the fiscal year budget. The director reports on the current financial state of the Science + Knowledge Division. The Director reports to the Senior Director of Operations and Resources and together they work on all operational issues such as budgeting for S+K staff, grants management, and other operational issues.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directs the annual budget process, including strategy, allocation, communication with S+K and Finance departments. Works on overall budget management throughout S+K, tracking performance of all teams. Directs fiscal year close-out.
- Provides Sr. Director of Operations and Resources requested information and analysis related to S+K financial management and performance.
- Directs the external grants reporting for major donors. This includes reviewing reports by finance staff in S+K, preparing and consolidating reports for donors that cross all clusters. Train staff on report production and compliance. Assures S+K is compliant with all major donors.
- Reviews and approves S+K expenditures and outgoing agreements for budget, donor, and overall mission alignment.
- Directs the financial proposal process, working with finance staff on developing proposal budgets, and approving final budgets. Will be the lead on proposals that cross all teams.
- Point of contact for Human Resources issues that impact the current fiscal year. Will support Senior Director on strategic staffing issues with multiyear implications.
- Will assist in supporting S+K Exec on all operations issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- 5+ years related work experience
- Masters degree in related area
- Advanced knowledge of budgeting, financial systems and financial reporting
- Experience with grants and contract development and management
- Requires attention to detail and the ability to operate with considerable independence to effectively establish priorities and work accurately under time constraints
- Knowledge of Foundation and US government funding
- Strong communication skills
- Excellent organizational and quantitative skills
