Description
The impact of climate change on our planet, our society, and potentially on our security is clear. The Government’s commitment to Net Zero 50 is a recognition of the need to take action. We know that we need to take action now.

We know that the Ministry of Defence is the largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in Government. We, therefore, have a vital role to play in supporting the Government's efforts to deliver Net Zero 50. Climate change will affect the way we protect, operate, and fight - from the warming of our oceans through to the increased requirement for humanitarian and disaster relief. We know the way we conduct Defence and the tasks we are called on to carry out will be forced to change as we adapt to new environmental conditions.

We have established this post and the Directorate in the Ministry of Defence to lead the strategic work across the department to make that change. In taking up this role you will be at the heart of a complex and dynamic organisation, working alongside committed and capable people. You will be at the forefront of delivering the MOD’s strategic ambition for 2050 of ensuring that we are recognised as a global leader in addressing climate change and sustainability.

To be successful, you will need to demonstrate senior leadership skills, with the ability to handle complexity and inspire staff. We are looking for someone who is able to drive complex projects & programmes and have an impact on a broad range of board-level stakeholders, both across Government and externally. You will also be someone who is able to articulate, link, and develop strategy and policy in a multi-faceted environment.
