Position Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic international organization in its Fundraising Department. Global Footprint Network is seeking a Development Manager who is an outgoing professional that will expedite the strategic expansion of the organization’s foundation fundraising activities and become an integral partner with the Director of Strategic Relationships in the Fundraising Department. As Development Manager, you will move the organization to the next level of visibility and success within the foundation and other philanthropic communities, and will be particularly gifted in building long-lasting relationships with foundations and funders. You will report directly to the Director of Strategic Relationships and work closely with the President. Additionally, as Development Manager you will collaborate with staff throughout the organization to develop project ideas, plan events, develop compelling language for proposals and reports, and to ensure that grant objectives are met.

Performance Profile
The Development Manager is responsible for managing and executing all activities related to grant submissions for Global Footprint Networks’ foundation fundraising. Overall grant responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

•Researching and applying for foundation funding that comprises approximately 50% of Global Footprint Network’s annual fundraising targeted for $1.0 to $2.0M for 2010;
•Partnering with Director of Strategic Relationships to maintain good relationships with foundation officers;
•Ensuring that grant objectives are accomplished within parameters outlined by the grant and oversee the system – which includes setting up job numbers, identifying project managers, integrating grant objectives and producing the reports required by the funder;
•Researching, writing, assembling, reviewing and submitting all LOIs, grant applications, and foundation reports within deadlines;
•Conducting meetings to identify and prioritize project needs and coordinate grant preparation assignments with program staff;
•Providing timely advice and information to Director of Strategic Relationships, President, and program staff on funding opportunities, requirements and procedures;
•Attending foundation meetings and liaising with foundation officers as appropriate;
•Serving as a resource to the President and other staff on foundation funding programs and opportunities, providing information, research, analysis, written reports and recommendations as needed;
•Assisting the Director of Strategic Relationships in identifying new foundation opportunities for Global Footprint Network in the US and abroad;
•Tracking progress being made toward objectives of grants once they are awarded.

Additional responsibilities include:

•Oversees online and direct mail appeal processes
•Oversees gift acknowledgment
•Working with Director of Strategic Relationships to assess a broader scope of fund raising opportunities such as online fund raising, event fund raising, campaign fund raising
•Other special projects, tasks and initiatives

Qualifications
Applicants need to have a proven track record of being reliable, responsible, detail oriented and able to take the lead and follow through. The ideal candidate will be outgoing, thorough and committed to always putting their best effort forth with a proven ability to handle multiple tasks in fast paced environments. This role requires the manager to thoroughly understand the importance of being proactive, consistent and to know at the heart of every successful organization is a team committed to building strong internal and external relationships. The candidate must have strong written and communication skills, with a minimum of 5 years of non-profit foundation fundraising experience. Their work history should demonstrate increasing levels of responsibility; prove the candidate has an excellent knowledge of foundations and the grant application process; a proven track record working with organizations with budgets of $2M+; a demonstrated ability to coordinate projects, meet deadlines and experience using fundraising databases. Applicants should be knowledgeable about sustainability and global resource issues. Candidates with fundraising experience in the fields of environmental sustainability or natural science are preferred. Experience with fundraising from international (especially European) sources and government entities and in partnership with academic institutions will be given priority.
