Clean Water Fund and New Jersey Environmental Federation, the state chapter of Clean Water Action are seeking an energetic and experienced part-time Development Assistant.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The NJ Development Assistant is responsible for developing, implementing and growing a program to cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors in the Garden State with the capacity to make annual gifts of $1,000 or more. This will be done in coordination with national major gift program of Clean Water Action and Clean Water Fund.
To that end, the NJ Development Assistant will:
Strategic and Administration
- Develop targeted strategies for comprehensive major gifts plan and for each individual donor in portfolio.
- Utilize nationally developed research and prospecting protocols that use our member database; create/modify tools as needed for NJ's donor program.
- Utilize organization's tracking systems to monitor progress with individual donors and solicitations, as well as provide monthly "actual revenue to budget" reports.
- Manage and contribute to the development of all communication materials (printed, electronic and oral) that will be used to execute this program.
- Establish & meet annual revenue goals and budget in conjunction with State Director
Individual Donor Management
- Manage portfolio of 100-250 prospects and donors, executing annual plans to cultivate, solicit and steward those donors, with direct personal responsibility for many of these donors, and responsibility for maintaining donor records.
- Perform donor responsibilities, including identifying prospects, helping set up visits, participating in visits, creating solicitor teams, developing strategies and target amounts for asks as well as ensuring that the NJ State Director, board members and other organizational staff have the resources needed to carry out their major donor work.
- Develop and manage events for major donors.
- Provide stewardship for major donors that will include asking board members to call or write thank you notes; preparing special personalized mailings or emails to donors; and writing personalized thank-you letters.
- Coordinate activities with the organization's Canvass Program and State Programs
- Participate as needed in Board Development Committee Meetings.
- Dedicate a substantial amount of time for direct asks and scheduling of meetings.
- Travel state-wide and occasionally out of state for donor meetings and events.
Reports to: NJ State Director
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 2-3 years fundraising experience.
- Demonstrated success managing and implementing a major gifts program and soliciting five and six figure gifts, in working with volunteers, and in planning and coordinating donor events.
- Excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills, especially relationship-building, public speaking and fundraising, with multiple constituencies
- Able to work independently and as part of a team in a large, complex organization.
- Understanding of IRS Code and other regulatory issues affecting 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations.
- Strategic, creative thinker, able to see the big picture, take initiative and set priorities; excellent time-manager and problem-solver
- Strong computer skills and data management skills, including using databases to track donor prospects
- Passion for environmental issues and the organizations' mission and programs
