Description

Volunteer in a beautiful, subtropical part of rural Ecuador, in the foothills of the Andes Mountains.  Help a small charity working for “Green Progress”, i.e. environmentally-responsible social and economic development.  The charity, CRACYP, is recognized for pioneering work in rural development and established a cooperative exporting the world’s first organic, fair-trade alcohol.  The cooperative seeks to improve the quality of life of its members in areas including health and education.

Dental hygiene is pretty much non-existent in the area.  Cleaning teeth is not a part of daily routine in some families, and many people, even small children, have rotting teeth.  Of course, this has an impact on health, and eventually results in costs the families can’t easily afford.  It also diminishes quality of life for the elderly.

We need a volunteer to design and implement an education program, working especially with school children and their mothers who are members of the organic alcohol project.  Experience in education and / or dental hygiene will be helpful, and Spanish language skills to at least intermediate level are essential.

This is a rewarding way to get off the beaten track and see a different side of life inEcuador.  You’ll stay in a small farming village in the beautiful sugar cane hills in theWestern Andes.

This and other volunteer opportunities are available for 1 to 8 weeks, all year round.  For more information, see http://www.progresoverde.org/volunteer_ecuador.html or email volunteer.ecuador@yahoo.co.uk quoting reference SDDenSep11.
