About the team

South Region are a fantastic team who have the very great privilege of managing almost 170,000 ha of land, with huge variety and potential, spread all the way from the Borders to the Isle of Arran.

As you can imaging it’s a busy place, we sustainably produce over a million cubic metres of timber from the estate every year, replant over 2,000 ha for future generations use, build roads and bridges, support many renewable energy projects, restore opencast sites and create new woodland, restore peatlands and manage some fantastic biodiversity sites and species, provide some world class mountain biking opportunities and a huge range of other recreational provision and visitor centres for the public to use and enjoy. In short, it’s a fantastic, diverse and hugely impressive area of land to be responsible for and we have a great team of people who make all these good things happen, every day.

What you will do

The Delivery Manager plays a key role within the Region, Overseeing key programmes in timber marketing and harvesting, woodland creation, restocking and silviculture, civil engineering, and environmental programmes including the effective management of wild deer. You will also contribute to supporting and enabling renewable energy programmes and addressing statutory plant health notices.

You will play a key role in Business planning, contributing to the development of a strategic approach which allows us to develop and then implement a sustainable and resilient future model for our business.

Reporting to the Regional Manager, you will lead a team of approximately 110 people in the delivery team. You will also contribute to the South Region Leadership Team, act as deputy to the Regional Manager and will connect, contribute to and promote a one team culture both in Region and with National Teams.

Main Duties

Leading the Delivery team

  • Provide strategic leadership for the delivery team by translating national goals and targets into local delivery priorities.
  • Drive forward professionalism in the delivery team both in terms of overall team performance as well as individual professional development.
  • Lead safety first culture within the team, providing support and understanding whilst pushing a continued improvement plan. Check compliance with relevant procedures and identify streamlined and integrated safety systems.
  • Act as Reporting Officer for the two Area Civil Engineers and the Regional Stewardship Manager.
  • Lead workforce planning within the delivery function to ensure that we have a capable and resilient team, building for our future.

Leading the Deliver Programme

  • Provide leadership in programming decisions to support the delivery team in achieving the Regional goals.
  • Prepare an effective and efficient Business plan, resourced appropriately to allow the team to achieve the targets set by the Region and monitor expenditure and service provision throughout the year.

Stakeholder Engagement, Representation and Customer Care

  • Maintain and promote effective networks with stakeholders and customers to ensure that the team deliver consistent and high quality output.
  • Maintain market intelligence and act as the link between national sales and marketing team and the regional customers.

Regional Leadership

  • Play an active role in the Regional Management Leadership Team.
  • Manage Regional business risks as they affect the delivery team making effective and timely decisions to manage the risks to an acceptable level.
  • Support the Regional Manager acting as their deputy when required.
  • Lead Strategic procurement decisions for the Regional delivery team to ensure that key targets can be achieved.
  • Evolve our approach to the way we work, moving us towards our desired Target Operating Model.

Experience

Essential:

  • Knowledge of modern forestry and land management, as currently practiced in Scotland.
  • Leading and supporting teams.

Desirable:

  • Building capacity and resilience in changing teams.
  • Leading Innovation and Change.
  • Finance and Contract management.
  • Managing and Delivering programmes.

Technical Skills

Essential:

  • HND qualification or Higher in Forestry or related Land Management subject.
  • Full current UK Driving licence.
  • Competence in MS Office.

Desirable:

  • Familiar in the use of core FLS IT systems.
  • ICF Professional Membership.
