Requirements: MSc (preferably in Taxonomy) or equivalent qualification, plus ten years’ relevant scientific experience after obtaining BSc • extensive experience in collections management as an added advantage • excellent communication skills, including report writing • ability to maintain sound interpersonal relations • proficiency in MS Office • valid Code B driver’s licence with at least one year’s practical driving experience.
Responsibilities: Formulating and setting goals for the National Herbarium • providing leadership in the National Herbarium and networking with Southern African herbaria • providing infrastructure, support and resources to scientists • developing policies regarding National Herbarium activities • financial management of the unit • participating in project management and implementation of corporate projects • conducting taxonomic research on Southern African flora • aligning activities of the National Herbarium with SANBI strategic and business plans, policies and funding requirements • ensuring that employees work in a healthy and safe environment, and that the Herbarium’s activities comply with the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
SANBI offers an all-inclusive annual salary of R448 521.
