Crystalline Silicon Solar Cell and Module Quality Test Engineer, West Coast

My client is a manufacturer and developer of high efficiency photovoltaic (PV) cells using crystalline silicon and are establishing manufacturing plants globally. As part of their expansion they are looking for a solar cell and module test engineer to ensure that the high quality of cells and modules being manufactured is maintained.

CORE CRITERIA
My client is seeking a solar cell and module test engineer to maintain the quality of products being supplied and to assist in the improvement of product yield.

Responsibilities:

• identify failure modes in cells or modules post production through various failure analysis methods
• Assessment of the tensile strength values and anti-tearing ability of EVA (ethylene-vinyl-acetate) foil used in the encapsulation of solar PV modules
• Work closely with yield technicians to identify significant failure modes so as to improve yield
• Use analytical tools such as TEM, FIB, EL, SIMS, XPS, XRD, EELS, UPS etc
• Ensure that a gel content test is done for each lot of EVA foil and assess a gel content value
• Inspect modules for Broken, cracked, bent, misaligned or torn external surfaces
• Checking if testing conditions match with STC or correction coefficients are applied to transfer measured values to STC. Controlling testing environment (separated chamber, reflection conditions).
• Checking non-corrected and corrected data records
• Verifying and checking periodical calibration reports

Requirements:

• Must educated to MSc or PhD level in electrical engineering, material science, physics, or chemical engineering
• Will have 5-7 years experience in reliability and or failure analysis in the solar or semiconductor industries
• Must be familiar with the digital force gauge
• Experience in TEM, FIB, EL, SIMS, XPS, XRD, EELS, UPS
• Will be based on the West Coast of America
• Be willing to travel nationally and internationally when required
