Greenpeace is an independent global campaigning organisation that acts to change attitudes and behaviour, to protect and conserve the environment and to promote peace.
Greenpeace Africa is looking for someone to run our office in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The rain forests of the Congo Basin are one of Africa’s greatest hope of stopping and ultimately repairing the ravages of climate change and disastrous effects of climate change. Greenpeace Africa’s DRC country manager is one of the organisation’s most critical roles working with the executive director, the campaign director, country managers and the teams in DRC, West Africa and South Africa. As such, the selection criteria is high.
We are looking for a dedicated person who can lead a group of passionate and committed staff, who can motivate and guide the team, who can implement our strategies and our vision effectively, openly and accountably.
The person we’re looking for will be fluent in French and English, have at least five years experience in senior management, of which three years are in an international context with some experience in working in high risk environments, have a high stress tolerance and revel in a multicultural environment. An understanding of the political and environmental issues in the DRC and the continent would be a decided asset, while a willingness to travel regularly in the DRC, across Africa and internationally is non-negotiable.
Stopping the pillage of the rain forests is not a nine-to-five job. It requires special skills, from chatting to villagers to dining with presidents and anybody else in between who can learn.
Greenpeace’s DRC country manager will be able to do all these things, representing Greenpeace Africa , while ensuring that a team is built up of motivatedCongolese staff and volunteers to carry on the work and spread the message to every corner of the country.
