We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic person to join our small but active program dedicated to supporting amphibian conservation activities at a global scale. This position reports to the Amphibian Program Officer at Conservation International, and is responsible for co-managing projects (see www.amphibians.org/Projects for examples), networking with Amphibian Specialist Group members and Chairs, producing and disseminating communications materials and fundraising. The successful candidate will have a strong background in amphibian conservation and/or research, strong experience in international settings and willingness to travel, strong inter-personal skills and proven ability to effectively manage complex projects and relationships.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist ASG Program Manager with the implementation of amphibian conservation projects, outreach and development strategies
  • Network with ASG members and Chairs. Answer questions from the network and disseminate relevant announcements as necessary.
  • Manage ASG members database.
  • Solicit articles and announcements for the bimonthly newsletter, Froglog (www.amphibians.org/Publications) and assist with editing of newsletter.
  • Provide support to the Program Manager as needed to support ongoing amphibian conservation efforts and campaigns.
 
Working Conditions
  • This position will be based at the CI headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, but will involve travel – both international and domestic – about 10% of the time. Trips are often to remote areas and applicants must be comfortable with very basic accommodations.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
Required
  • 2-4 years of workplace experience
  • Good interpersonal communications and writing skills in English.
  • Thorough knowledge of amphibian research and conservation issues, and up-to-date on current amphibian decline literature.
  • Ability to present scientific information to a diverse audience.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong international experience, and willingness to travel.
  • Organizational skills and proven ability to manage sound working relationships.
 
 
Preferred
  • Postgraduate degree in environmental sciences, or a related subject
  • Fluency in other languages, especially Spanish, Portuguese and French.
  • Ability to use graphic design packages such as Adobe Indesign, or capacity and willingness to learn, to assist with editing newsletter.
  • Proven fundraising skills.
