ECMWF probabilistic forecasts of severe weather conditions leading to droughts and flooding will be assessed. Particular emphasis will be put on severe weather events linked to water resources using new products such as the Extreme Forecast Index (EFI). The project is closely linked to the European Flood Alert System (EFAS) project, which is a European Commission initiative to increase preparedness for riverine floods across Europe by utilising medium-range atmospheric ensemble forecasts.
