Description |
The post is located in the Predictability and Diagnostics Section of the Research Department. ECMWF is a partner in the EU-funded EUCLIPSE project, which is investigating cloud feedbacks in the climate system. ECMWF's role in this project is the evaluation of model physics in terms of 'initial tendencies' and short-range forecast error. Initial tendencies are calculated over the first few timesteps of a forecast, where the model is confronted with observations in the data assimilation process. The approach has been demonstrated to provide useful advice to the climate community. It will also play an important role in maintaining NWP performance trends in the face of increasing forecast system complexity. The selected candidate will work in the exciting and emerging field of diagnosis, and provide the main ECMWF contribution to the EUCLIPSE project. The main duties comprise:
Qualifications: PhD level or equivalent in meteorology or a related subject. Experience in one of the following: data assimilation, boundary-layer parametrization, seasonal forecasting, climate modelling. Good knowledge of Fortran programming and UNIX scripting is desirable. The working languages of ECMWF are English, French and German. Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have a good knowledge of one of the other working languages of ECMWF. Interviews will be conducted in English.
Remuneration: Typically within the range of £3,795.00 to £5,255.00 per month net of tax, depending upon qualifications, experience, personal situation and eligibility for expatriation allowance. A deduction of either £33.62 per beneficiary or 4.38% of the monthly remuneration will be made for the supplementary health insurance scheme. |
