Airtricity is seeking to appoint a Construction Project Manager to manage one or more windfarm construction projects in the South West of Ireland (primarily Cork and Kerry). Each project consists of a turbine project, civil and electrical engineering contracts, and where required contestable or non-contestable grid connection works.

 

Development work (including land, planning and preliminary grid connection work) will be completed by the Airtricity development department. The Construction Project Manager will be expected to take over project management of any outstanding development work once planning permission has been granted.

 

The key target for this person will be to deliver their assigned windfarm project(s) safely, on time and to budget, fully compliant with Airtricity design and EHS (Environmental, Health and Safety) requirements, which meet Airtricity, Partner, and Stakeholder expectations.

 

Preferably this role will be based at Airtricity’s Killarney office or at one of the project site offices in Cork or Kerry. Alternatively this role could be based at one of our other regional offices (currently Dublin, Belfast, Omagh and Castlebar).

 

Key Tasks:

  • Responsible for managing EHS (Environmental, Health and Safety), budget, schedule and quality on assigned projects and contracts.
  • Manage all aspects of the assigned projects from receipt of planning permission, through the design and specification process, through tendering and appointment of the contractors, to hand over of the completed Windfarm and associated works to the client, SSE Wind Generation
  • Manage internal project team and interface with other Airtricity departments to deliver contracts safely, on time and on budget: Development, Engineering, Resource Assessment, Procurement, Finance depts.
  • Manage external project team to deliver contracts safely, on time and on budget: Legal advisors, Engineering Consultants, Planning Consultants, EHS Consultants, Main and Sub-contractors
  • Interface with and where appropriate manage project stakeholders including but not limited to: Landowners, County and town Councils, ESB, Eirgrid, NPWS, Planners, Fisheries on construction and access issues
  • Manage multiple contracts and projects in parallel. Project management of the project team(s) and directly manage a team of one or more project managers and / or site based construction managers.
  • Report on a monthly basis the EHS, Budget, Schedule and Risk performance of the project.

 

Education and experience

The ideal candidate will likely be working in the construction industry in Ireland project managing the construction of electrical / power infrastructure – for example: wind or traditional power plants: substations or other electrical infrastructure; overhead or underground grid connections.   The candidate may be working in the civil engineering sector but must have strong electrical experience. The candidate could be working on the client or contractor side or as a consultant to either party but must be able to show relevant experience of project managing large projects and project teams. The following are also pre-requisites:

  •  Formal qualification in Engineering or Construction, preferably electrical or power engineering. We will consider civil, structural or mechanical but you must also have strong electrical experience  
  • A minimum of 8 years experience working on large-scale construction projects, preferably Power / Electrical / Wind / Energy projects.
  • Has managed on the client or contractor side, high value construction contacts (preferably EPC / Turnkey / FIDIC Silver book type contracts). A minimum of three years managing such a major project.

  • Ability to form, manage, motivate, and lead a project team is essential
  • Must be able to build and maintain relationships with project stakeholders (for example: Landowners, County and town Councils, ESB, Eirgrid, NPWS, Planners, Fisheries)
