 Description: This position is ideal for 1 intern. This position is paid and is open to current or recent undergraduate or graduate students (graduate students are preferred).

Background

As part of its expanding approach to work in conservation, WWF has developed a Markets unit to engage companies on their sourcing of raw materials. WWF is committed to bringing the best information and analyses to bear on its work and this internship will be focused on supporting the integration of science into the sourcing research.  

Internship Description

The major responsibilities of the internship will be to:

  • Expand current research on agricultural goods produced in priority areas for conservation;
  • Analyze potential ecological impacts resulting from changes in agricultural production (e.g. pastureland converted to cropland);
  • Create ArcGIS maps and expand data on species potentially affected by agricultural and/or forestry products;
  • Create reports based on the analyses;
  • Undertake other assignments as required.

This internship will report to both to the Markets and the Conservation Science Program and will work closely with members of both programs. This internship provides an opportunity to improve research and analysis skills in a professional setting, while contributing to WWF’s mission. 

Requirements:

  • Full time is preferred; minimum of 20 hours a week for 12 weeks (a longer time period, potentially through the winter is desirable);
  • Good research skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Background in conservation science, biology, ecology, agriculture, or the environment is preferred;
  • Skills in Excel, Power Point and Microsoft Word and obligatory; ArcGIS experience is desired but not obligatory.
