Description: |
The Conservation Public Policy Intern will assist NWTF’s professional staff in researching and promoting public policy priorities affecting wildlife and habitat management, forestry, hunting and other conservation and sportsmen’s issues. The Intern will be responsible for monitoring and tracking legislation, conducting research and developing briefing documents to inform the NWTF’s position on proposed public policy, and prepping internal and external marketing materials. The Intern will work closely with the Director of Lands and Policy and Conservation Programs Department Directors and Program Managers on public policy efforts at the Federal and State level. |
Duties: |
• Researching wildlife conservation and management, forestry, and hunting policy issues • Preparing background information for use in testimony, letters, or comments • Developing and writing policy related fact sheets, briefs, and action alerts • Monitoring and tracking key legislative priorities • Develop state / district level fact sheets about NWTF accomplishments and priorities • Support NWTF’s state and federal conservation initiatives |
Qualifications: |
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Currently pursuing or have obtained a 4-year degree in wildlife management, wildlife biology, forestry, environmental policy, or related natural resource or policy degrees • Possess strong written and oral communication skills with a wide variety of audiences • Ability to prepare information on conservation programs and policies for presentation to peers, partners, lay audiences, and elected officials • Ability to effectively plan, organize, and prioritize work activities, complete projects independently, and meet deadlines
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Completed Bachelors or Master’s degree in in wildlife management, wildlife biology, forestry, environmental policy, or related natural resource of policy degrees • Knowledge and experience in conservation policy and history, Farm Bill Legislation, Federal land management policy, and conservation funding • Knowledge of the federal legislative process • Understanding of the role hunting plays in wildlife conservation • Membership and/or previous involvement with the NWTF |
