Role Profile

ZSL is looking for a Conservation Programme Development Manager to help the Conservation team build capacity and lead in the design, development and initiation of high quality, robust and future proofed, large-scale multi-year programmes that are aligned to ZSL’s strategy. The successful applicant will work closely with the Asia, Africa, Marine and Freshwater, EDGE and Conservation Technology programmes and have a proven track record of working effectively with teams and senior managers. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for and lead the design, development and roll out of a number of key systems and processes to standardise programme planning;
  • Build capacity in relevant teams, through leading the design, planning and delivering training programmes to enable them to design and develop large-scale multi-year programmes;
  • Support and facilitate teams in the design of large-scale multi-year programmes, associated business plans and projects that meet in-country and partner government needs.
  • Identify, promote and facilitate cross-regional/cross-societal programmatic information sharing, collaboration and synergy in the context of regional/thematic proposal development.
  • Represent ZSL as and when needed at key events, that support the development of strategic conservation programme planning.
  • Facilitate provision of relevant programmatic documents (e.g. Theories of Change, impact indicator frameworks, budgets) to inform promotion of ZSL’s conservation work.
  • Support the Monitoring and Evaluation, learning and adaptive management of programmes and associated projects, ensuring that lessons learned are applied between and across programmes, and supporting capture and communication of measurable impact indicators that are fed back into ZSL strategy progress monitoring.

Person Specification

  • Strong track record in developing conservation projects commensurate with ZSL’s work
  • Strong track record of developing of project log frames
  • Ability to balance a range of priorities and deadlines and manage highly effective projects essential.
  • Excellent written and spoken English; Ability to speak and write in French is an advantage.
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively with teams and senior managers both internally and externally
  • Experience of working in an international and/or inter-cultural environment
  • Familiarity of working in virtual teams across multiple time zones
  • Solutions oriented with effective problem-solving abilities
