Description

Surrey Wildlife Trust is one of 46 Wildlife Trusts across the UK, a grassroots movement working to protect and connect at least 30 per cent of land and sea for nature's recovery by 2030.

‘Our vision for a wilder Surrey is a future with abundant wildlife and nature recovery networks rich in biodiversity.’ We will realise this vision by creating bigger, better and more joined up areas of land for biodiversity benefit through direct conservation land management and key relationship management.

We are increasing our countryside resources and looking to recruit two regional Conservation Managers (East and West of the county respectively) to handle challenging conservation delivery across a number of reserves and to drive plans forward by empowering others and working as part of a team, prioritising effectively, responding to swiftly changing demands and dealing with complex issues.

Each role has different priorities dictated by the land within that area of the county, the West is dominated by lowland heath whereas chalk and wetlands are the focus in the East (full explanatory job profiles on our website) but both successful candidates will need to be strong, practical people managers who can demonstrate logical thinking, project management skills, passion for the joy of nature and determination to succeed.

You must have previous experience of successfully working within the environmental sector matched with an out-going, personable and friendly personality, and the ability to work with a wide range of people.

The job will involve a mix of being outdoors, leading practical tasks or managing contractors, throughout the year, occasional lone working, office work and working with partner organisations. A full driving licence is essential as our locations cannot easily be accessed by public transport.

The full job profiles and person specification plus the application form are on our website www.surreywildlifetrust.org

We are committed to having an inclusive and diverse workplace and encourage applications from backgrounds which may be underrepresented in our sector, including people from minority ethnic backgrounds and people with disabilities.

We are committed to offering an interview to all candidates that meet the essential criteria for the post.  Please let us know if you require any adjustment to make our recruitment process more accessible; recruitment may be virtual using Zoom or Teams but is most likely to be in person at Pucks Oak Barn in Compton on 31st August and 1st September. Second interviews will be held at different sites within the county.

Please apply using the Application Form to Jenny Hooper, Countryside Coordinator countryside@surreywt.org.uk by midday Thursday 19th August 2021.
