Purpose and General Description

Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is seeking a dynamic and energetic candidate to join our team in Nova Scotia for this one-year term position. The Conservation Coordinator will advance conservation by contributing to NCC’s program delivery with an emphasis on land acquisition. The successful team member will work with Nova Scotian landowners interested in conservation and assist in the acquisition and management of conservation information and documentation. The successful candidate will serve as an ambassador for NCC while engaging conservation partners and local communities across Nova Scotia.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Liaise with Nova Scotian landowners, coordinate and administer landowner contact program.
  • Track and coordinate NCC responses to inquiries from the public.
  • Provide spatial mapping and analysis to inform land conservation strategies.
  • Conduct field site visits and complete site assessments.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant applications.
  • Track and document progress on conservation actions.
  • Advance NCC community relations and profile in key focal areas.
  • Communicate NCC’s mission and work to a wide variety of audiences.

Required Skills and Attributes

  • University degree (Masters preferred) in biology, environmental studies/science, law, planning or related discipline.
  • Exemplary organization, planning, communication (written and oral), and project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including experience and proven results in working tactfully with colleagues, and ability and experience in easily communicating with a wide range of people in public and private sectors.
  • Technical knowledge related to flora and fauna identification skills for Nova Scotia, as well as demonstrated experience conducting fieldwork.
  • Experience working with ArcGIS.
  • Ability to work independently with a strong attention to detail, be self-motivated, and display superior time management skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a dynamic work plan, and meet fixed deadlines.
  • Problem-solving skills; ability to make decisions, sound judgment.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Terms of Employment

  • This is a full-time, 52 week position starting November 2019.
  • This position is ideally based in Halifax, Nova Scotia but remote work locations may be considered for outstanding candidates.
