As part of the Australian Government’s National Plan for Environmental Information (NPEI), the Bureau of Meteorology has been assigned new functions in environmental information. These new functions build upon a substantial set of existing functions in weather, climate, water and oceans.

The Bureau’s new functions in this area include:

  • Collation and harmonisation of environmental data from other agencies
  • Scoping the development of national environmental accounts
  • Designing a national environmental information system

The eReefs project will be a significant program of work initially supporting the management of the Great Barrier Reef and leading to integrated coastal information services for Australia. We are seeking an experienced Project Manager, for a full-time non-ongoing role, to oversee user needs analysis, design, development and operational delivery of the marine water quality information service as part of the eReefs initiative.

 The appointee will:

  •  have a proven track-record of successfully managing ICT projects that are operationally ready
  • have a proven track-record of managing teams of environmental scientists and technical ICT specialists in order to deliver on project outcomes.
  • have an understanding of key aspects of Australia’s coastal zone, including environmental assessment, ecosystem monitoring, spatial analysis and remote sensing, environmental information management and informatics.
  • possess strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • be an excellent communicator and have demonstrated an ability to maintain sustainable working relationships across multidisciplinary teams and Australian Government agencies.

It is preferred that the position operate from the Bureau’s Melbourne or Canberra office due to the requirement to liaise with stakeholders, however other locations may be considered.
