Coastal Climate Change Adaptation Research - Full-time

The Coastal Issues Committee Of The Ecology Action Centre IS Seeking a bilingual (French / Français) Researcher to work was Two Year Research Project. Will this project build new Knowledge about how climate change impacts Will The Fisheries and Tourism Sector in Western Cape Breton. The Project Will Develop Ways to measure changes, and new tools to help Sectors thesis to find information, Assess risk and plan for climate change. 

The Research Will Be Based in Cheticamp. Western Cape Bretion. Their Role Will Be to Lead the community engagement and capacity building activities. The Research Will conduite aussi participatory research and information about The Issues related to climate change Needs in Cheticamp. Will Collaborate With this position and Report to the Research Coordinator. The Research Will Also Work with local partners, Including Economic TheBoard, Harbour Authority, Marine and Aquatic Gulf Station.

Project Overview

The Project Will Develop Two Sector Specific toolkits to assist The Fisheries Sector in Tourism and Acadian Communities in the Maritimes Identify and Remove Barriers related to climate change impacts. Two key local partners are Involved in this work, The Economic Council of Cheticamp & the Gulf Aquatic Marine Station. The Project Will INVOLVE Many local partners connected to expertise Around the region, Including Universities and community colleges as well as "non-profit, and provincial and federal initiatives. The Knowledge and Experience Gained from Project Will this help Coastal, Rural Communities In The Region, Especially French speaking Communities Adaptation to Climate Change.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and Implement community-based engagement efforts in Cheticamp
  • Community-based research on climate change impacts are Fisheries and Tourism
  • Organize focus groups With Fisheries and Tourism Sector to Understand Barriers, Information Needs, and potential adaptation tools
  • Working with a regional network of research Collaborators
  • Organize community forums to present research results and pilot toolkits
  • Assisting With The Development and dissemination of toolkits
  • Presentations and workshops to participation and commitment to Disseminate The Research
  • Reporting to and Working with the Research Coordinator
  • Participating in and Supporting the list overall work of The Ecology Action Centre
  • Promotion Project via website, social media and local media

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bilingual (French / Français)
  • Understanding of climate change and climate change adaptation
  • Excellent understanding of The Issues Facing Rural Nova Scotian Coastal Communities
  • Deep understanding of Cheticamp and surrounding areas
  • Excellent research skills Including a grounding in Participatory methods
  • Proven community-development and capacity-building skills
  • Proven communication skills, presentations and workshops Including
  • Ability to Work With A Variety of stakeholders
  • Highly Organized With An Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Able to Work Independently
  • With A Persistent diplomacy and team-oriented approach
  • Relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent gold Matser work experience

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience working in non-profit, volunteer-driven Organizations
  • With experience writing for the web
  • Experience with Media
  • Hands on experience in The Tourism and / or fishing industries

Term: 23 May 2011 until 10 February 2013

Wage: $ 19 per hour for 30 hours per week, includes oven Weeks Paid Vacation and Benefits
