Description |
The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) is an independent national nonprofit that uses science to protect our health, safety, and environment. We are scientists, engineers, economists, activists, and everyday people who develop and advocate for innovative, practical solutions to some of our planet’s most pressing problems—from combating global warming and developing sustainable ways to feed, power, and transport ourselves, to fighting misinformation, advancing racial equity, and reducing the threat of nuclear war. The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) is seeking a Coalitions Coordinator (CC) for our Food & Environment program, which works to transform our nation’s food system into one that provides affordable, healthy food for all, supports sustainable farming systems, and is fair to farmers, workers, and eaters. We do this work in partnership with other organizations, diverse in mission and size, to build power for our movement. Your job as CC will be to oversee the growth of our coalition relationships, revitalize and continue to build member engagement, provide support in policymaking education and awareness, as well as advocacy settings, develop strategic actions, and lay the groundwork for grassroots-driven policy agendas that prioritize racial equity and inclusion in our food system. You’ll work with an existing coalition’s steering committee and UCS government affairs and outreach staff to plan and manage activities and campaigns and collaborate on communications that report on coalition activities. This is a mid-level leadership position: the right candidate must be able to encourage teamwork and collaboration, support coalition partners in multiple projects, understand how organizations work together, and contribute to a positive work culture.
