Climate Strategy Co-ordinator

Job reference: VAC004339

Location: City Hall, College Green, Bristol, BS1 5TR

Salary: BG12 £38,296 - £45,495

Contractual hours: 37

Basis: Full time

We are recruiting for a highly motivated and experienced individual to accelerate progress on making Bristol carbon neutral and climate resilient by 2030.

The essence of the role is to coordinate the delivery of Bristol's One City Climate Strategy.

Bristol City Council has endorsed the Strategy. In this role, you will proactively drive and coordinate work by organisations and people in the city to make the Strategy a reality.

The role would suit a professional with experience of making climate change action happen in practice and inspiring action from others in the context of a just transition to carbon neutrality.

The work will involve taking a strategic and systemic approach to coordinate the climate actions of public, private, community and voluntary sector organisations and people across Bristol. It will involve representing Bristol City Council within the Horizon Europe 100 Climate Neutral and Smart Cities Mission. The role involves networking with other cities who are part of the Mission. Part of the role will be to support the formation and work of a Transition Team for Bristol as part of the Mission approach.

The One City Climate Strategy Co-ordinator will be part of the Climate Change Team, within the Sustainable City and Climate Change Service. Particularly close working relationships will be expected with Bristol City Council colleagues working on climate change with respect to diversity and engagement, communication on the One City Climate Strategy, heat decarbonisation and climate resilience. Working under the One City approach, the work also requires close collaboration with the City Office, the One City Environment Board and liaison with the Bristol Advisory Committee on Climate Change.

Why Bristol City Council?

At Bristol City Council, we go that extra mile for our people - we offer a work environment which is fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high-profile organisation. As with most of our roles, flexible (hybrid) working arrangements are available for this post. This allows you the opportunity to work in a way that suits you, balancing operational need and individual choice. However, as this role works predominantly with organisations and people in Bristol outside of our organisation you will be expected to spend the greater part of your time working proactively with others at locations in the city.

Join us and you’ll receive an excellent rewards package including flexible working and flexitime, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and a generous annual leave allowance. In addition, you’ll be working in a supportive environment where you’ll have the chance to make Bristol a better place and contribute to its future.

How do I apply?

If you share our values and are ready to be part of our exciting journey, please select the apply button below.

To be shortlisted for interview, in the Further Information section of your application you’ll need to give evidence of how you meet each of the essential criteria in the Person Specification. In the event we receive high numbers of applications, we may then shortlist against the desirable criteria alongside the essential criteria. So, if you can, please also set out in your application evidence of how you meet the desirable criteria.
