Description |
Wakefield Council declared a Climate Emergency in May 2019, which aims to make the organisation carbon neutral by 2030 and support the wider District to reach the same goal. To support this ambitious commitment two Programme Boards have been established to take this forward and an initial Climate Emergency Programme and Action Plan is being developed. The Climate Emergency Programme builds on a strong foundation of successful corporate and wider district energy related projects the Council has delivered over recent years and this work is a fundamental part of the Council's strategic objectives to be a ‘Successful Council’ and create ‘Successful People’, ‘Successful Places’ and ‘Successful Businesses’. This career-enhancing opportunity has arisen for a person with a passion for sustainability, who understands the opportunities and challenges of climate change, to drive forward and lead the Council's Climate Emergency Programme. You will engage with a range of decision-makers and stakeholders, at all levels and represent one of the UK’s leading local authorities. Expect to work closely with Elected Members and colleagues, and communities and partners from the public, private, community and voluntary sectors. You’re likely to have specialist knowledge in either sustainable development, energy or climate change, coupled with a proven track record of programme and project management. You’ll have experience of developing and influencing policy, targets, strategy and processes, and developing and sustaining effective partnerships at a local, regional and national level. The role will provide professional and technical advice to the Authority, colleagues, partners and the community on a wide range of issues relating to climate change, energy, sustainability and the environment. You will also be able to innovate through service delivery and motivate colleagues, partners and stakeholders to achieve high performance standards. In return, we offer a generous rewards package including flexible working and flexi-time, membership of the Local Government Pension scheme, a generous annual leave allowance, discounted leisure centre membership and travel cards. Reporting to the Team Leader, Housing Policy and Energy, the post is located in the Economic Growth & Skills service. For an informal discussion about the post please contact Mark Hooton, Team Leader Housing Policy and Energy on 01924 305887. This vacancy is open ended.
