ERM has been involved in numerous projects across Africa for over 35 years, and in 2003 established a permanent presence in the region to meet the growing needs of our clients. We now employ over 150 people working out of offices in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg and Pretoria.

We are looking to appoint an energy and climate change specialist to play a lead role in the further growth of our African operations. We are looking for individuals with recognised energy and carbon management experience who are ready to help our clients understand and manage their carbon and climate change issues and exposure.
 
We are searching for an exceptional individual who has technical experience that ranges across carbon footprinting, climate risk analysis, climate change strategy development, cost benefit studies and greenhouse gas assurance. This person will drive business development and sales for our Climate Change Practice. Applicants should be self starters, enthusiastic and curious. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work internationally with our global team of Energy and Climate Change experts. 
 
Our climate change and energy team has a strong focus on topics such as:
  • carbon management for international corporations (covering issues such as EU ETS, CDM and JI, climate change strategy, emissions data management and footprinting, reporting and data assurance);
  • policy and regulatory advice to governments and other international bodies;
  • strategic and technical energy studies (including  conventional, renewable and sustainable energy); and
  • emerging issues associated with carbon capture and storage, where ERM has a leading position internationally.
 
We are looking for an individual who can contribute to the ongoing growth of our services in the area. Our ideal candidate will have:
  • consultancy experience in the areas of energy and/or climate change policy at international and local level, with experience of managing projects;
  • strong numerical and analytical skills – since you will be expected to assist our clients in identifying and assessing the practical implications of policy and regulation and help them to develop their responses;
  • post-graduate qualifications (Masters or PhD) in relevant areas;
  • a commercial and customer-oriented attitude;
  • enthusiasm, energy and a desire to work in a dynamic team within an international consultancy;
  • the ability to work independently, taking responsibility for tasks and certain projects;
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills.
