Established in 2017, Climate Analytics Australia, provides science and policy analysis across climate and energy related strategies and policies, with a focus on empowering civil society and other stakeholders to enhance mitigation ambition in the Asia-Pacific through development of whole of economy as well as sectoral transformational pathways and roadmaps consistent with the Paris Agreement, at regional, national, and subnational level. Our Australia office in Perth, Western Australia also focuses on tracking and assessing climate and energy policy activities against global and regional benchmarks in the Asia-Pacific region. Working in close collaboration with other Climate Analytics’ offices and global teams, in particular the Climate Policy Team. Climate Analytics Australia currently has 4 staff members and several associates in the broader region. CA Australia acts as a regional hub for CA activities in the Asia-Pacific region. It partners up with academia, think tanks and other organisations and foundations in Australia and in the region, to further advance climate and energy policy research and analysis and concrete action on climate change at regional, national and subnational level.
Your Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Director of CA’s Asia-Pacific office (located in Perth, Western Australia) and in close collaboration with the global Climate Policy Team, your key responsibilities will include:
- Costing and projections of costs of mitigation options, targets and measures; in the context of countries in the Asia-Pacific as well as in G20 countries
- Evaluation of investment needs, including sources and instruments;
- Quantification of economic impacts and co-benefits of mitigation measures, such as for employment, job quality, energy access and security, and for public health and agriculture (through reduced air pollution);
- Evaluate and where appropriate initiate development of climate economics tools, modelling and conceptual frameworks;
- Economic data research, collection and analysis;
- Development of relevant statistical, econometric methodologies;
- Structured literature research and review;
- Development and acquisition of projects and research grants.
Your Profile
- Master’s degree in economics, or development economics;
- PhD or comparable work experience is a plus;
- Academic background in economic tools, modelling, conceptual frameworks;
- Demonstrable interest, prior knowledge and work experience in climate change, and/or energy policy/analysis;
- Experience working on climate change and/or sustainable development with developing countries, is a plus.
- Excellent quantitative skills; knowledge of programming code language is a plus.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel and Power Point)
- Very good analytical and writing skills;
- Motivated, hard-working, solution-orientated, flexible with high level of professional integrity;
- Team-player;
- Ability to work independently, ability to travel, good communication skills; and
- High proficiency in speaking and writing in English (required), additional language spoken in the Asia-Pacific is a plus.
