Description

Greenpeace is seeking an experienced campaigner to join the Greenpeace team in confronting the world’s largest industrial project. The construction and development of the Athabasca tar sands represent one of the largest environmental threats happening in Canada. From runaway greenhouse gas emissions, to impacts on forest and wetlands, to growing toxic lakes, downstream health impacts and workers rights the tar sands are an ecological and social ticking time bomb. Greenpeace is working directly in the belly of the beast to slow and stop the project and bring about a transition to clean energy sources within Canada.

Candidates should have a proven record on developing campaign strategies and implementing successful tactics. You will work on this campaign with colleagues in Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal, and around the world. You will develop relationships with other groups and activists; represent Greenpeace at meetings with industry and government officials; act as a spokesperson to the media and at public events; organize community-based activists; research and analyze a wide range of materials related to the tar sands issue; and produce written campaign materials.

The successful candidate will possess: excellent communications skills (both verbal and written); strong negotiation skills; the ability to work as part of a team as well as independently; demonstrated good judgement and leadership skills; be extremely well-organized; and understand and support Greenpeace’s campaign style including engaging in peaceful civil disobedience.

Experience related to climate change, oil and gas issues, and other energy issues, is a strong asset. You must be able to travel, including internationally. The ability to work evenings and weekends is sometimes required.

An ability to communicate in French and English will be considered an asset.
