The Chief Scientist will provide exceptional scientific leadership and quality assurance for JNCC, proactively connecting us with the external research community maintaining our Public Sector Research Establishment status and supporting the professional development and empowerment of our scientists. Job descriptionThe Chief Scientist will be an authentic, visible and strategic leader, ensuring the scientific rigour of our work, able to articulate clearly JNCC’s vision our mission, strategic priorities and values through your work and actions, and be inspiring about our work and its future. As a member of JNCC’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT), the Chief Scientist will lead the organisation, collectively and efficiently, through the change needed to deliver JNCC’s vision, being confident in their engagement with staff and stakeholders. The Chief Scientist will be a high profile and influential advocate for JNCC externally and promote JNCC’s reputation for robust scientific advice. The Chief Scientist will advise the JNCC Chair and Joint Committee and deputise for the Chief Executive as required. The Chief Scientist will foster an environment where everyone feels valued and respected by creating a more inclusive workplace, where every individual has equality of opportunity to progress and thrive. The Chief Scientist will support JNCC’s ambition to continue to develop as a learning organisation. The Chief Scientist will build a new directorate, drawing in teams from across the organisation. The Chief Scientist will be responsible and accountable for the people and budget allocated by the CEO. The Chief Scientist will manage Grant in Aid funding and forecasts for income to deliver the relevant outcomes in the Business Plan. Shortlisting for interview is on the basis of merit. The selection panel will assess the evidence presented by all applicants against the advertised criteria and the highest rated applicants will be invited to interview.
