Description
The SLP will establish a public-private funding facility to catalyze investment in low carbon development opportunities in specific, high conservation value landscapes in Indonesia over the next 5 years. The Chief of Party (CoP) will be a senior position based in Jakarta, Indonesia, responsible for CI representation, leadership and management of the SLP program in Indonesia. The CoP will report to the CI Indonesia Executive Director.
This senior position will be integral to providing oversight to Conservation International’s contribution to the SLP Program, and will serve as the main point of contact for government relations, as well as private sector outreach. The Chief of Party will be a seasoned manager of people and complex AID projects, and experienced in working in Indonesia. 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • CI representation and decision-making on SLP Management Council
  • Private sector engagement & leadership of SLP Associates Committee
  • Leadership of the technical design of landscape investment plans
  • Management and implementation of SLP investments in Indonesia
  • Oversight of program administration and operations
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
 
Working conditions:
  • The CoP position will be based in Jakarta, Indonesia. 
  • He/she will be expected to participate in evening and/or early morning phone calls with staff in CI’s headquarters in Arlington, VA. 
  • The position will require frequent travel to at least two district pilot sites in Indonesia (sites to be determined during initial phase of program). 
  • It will also require travel at least once a year to Washington, DC for meetings with SLP donors, partners and CI HQ-based staff.
 
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Required:
 
  • Minimum 15 years experience in NRM, forestry, energy, and/or other relevant sectors with professional work experience in Indonesia and/or Southeast Asia;
  • Proven leadership in similar complex international programs with skills in strategic planning, management, supervision and budgeting;
  • Proven ability to develop and communicate a common vision among diverse partners and the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams, as well as to develop a network of contacts among international donor officials and non-government staff;
  • Proven understanding of private-sector motivation and business development expertise. The SLP’s main focus is to catalyze private sector investment, therefore the candidate must have a good grasp of investment climate in Indonesia, tradeoffs faced by development planners and extractive industries among others, and established networks within the Indonesian business community; 
  • Effective and established networks with high level skills in intercultural communications and facilitating dialogue among conservation groups, financial sector, and all levels of Government;
  • Ability to establish effective multi-sector partnerships and networks, with strong intercultural communication and facilitation skills among conservation groups, financial sector and government and demonstrated ability to establish strong working relationships with senior representatives of national and local government, the private sector and civil society;
  • Understanding of private-sector motivation (preferably in Indonesia) and business development expertise.
 
Preferred:
  • Proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia
  • Advanced degree in Economics, Business (MBA) or other relevant fields
  • Proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia 
  • Knowledge of conservation issues in Indonesia
  • Knowledge of carbon markets, REDD, green development issues
  • Professional work experience in Indonesia and/or Southeast Asia
  • Ideal candidate would have experience managing private sector investments in Indonesia
