The Chief Financial Officer will report to the CEO and will be a primary advisor on a broad range of strategic, financial, and operational issues in conjunction with the Executive Leadership Team and the Board of Directors. The CFO will manage the Finance, Accounting, HR, IT, and Facility Operations organizations.
The CFO will serve as a key member of the OPOWER Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and have primary day-to-day responsibility for all financial and accounting activities. This person will ensure that the Finance and Accounting organization is optimally managed by providing strategic and tactical leadership. The right candidate will understand and anticipate the appropriate information, metrics and business intelligence required to run a profitable and fast growing SaaS revenue business in the energy efficiency space, ensuring optimal reporting, governance, analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Planning:

  • Assess organizational performance against both the annual budget and the long term strategy for OPOWER.
  • Work with the CEO and ELT to help drive the development of the processes and systems that provide critical financial and operational information enabling recommendations on profitability, strategy and operations.
  • Drive successful cash management via cash flow “levers” at all levels of the organization.
  • Assist in establishing yearly objectives and meeting agendas, and selecting and engaging outside consultants (auditors and investment consultants, as appropriate).
  • Engage the Board, finance, and audit committees around issues, trends, and changes in the operating model(s) and operational delivery.

Accounting and Reporting:

  • “Roll-up the sleeves” as necessary in both reporting and operational issues.
  • Seek to establish world class standards for timely and accurate financial closing and reporting. Establish a highly scalable reporting infrastructure.
  • Provide forward-thinking leadership, direction, and oversight for all corporate finance, tax, internal audit, accounting, and treasury activities.
  • Provide timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends that will serve as strategic assets to the CEO, Board and ELT.


Forecasting and Analytics:

  • Manage FP&A function to ensure accurate, timely forecasting of results and operational refinements.
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting.
  • Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes thresholds.
  • Optimize banking relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash positions.
  • Build out and manage an analytics and business intelligence function that provides timely and relevant information to the CEO and ELT to aid in strategic planning and decision making.


IT and Business Operations:

  • Provide leadership, direction, and oversight of the Information IT organization as well as office operations and facilities.
  • Effectively forecast and manage IT and Business Operations spend.


Culture and Human Resources:

  • Optimize and manage the Human Resources function including design/implementation of benefits plans, processes, policies and procedures to reflect OPOWER’s creative, open, empowering culture.


Board Interaction:

  • Ability to facilitate appropriate actions between Board and finance functions allowing Board meetings to be more strategic while meeting their fiduciary duties.
  • Negotiate and arrange, in conjunction with the Board and CEO, outside financing to raise additional capital as required for expansion.
  • Be the primary interaction point with investor groups for inquiries, analysis, and financial insight.

 

ABOUT YOU

  • A minimum of a BS degree; MBA preferred, from a top ranked university.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant senior financial management and operational experience ideally within technology driven, consumer focused/B2C, recurring revenue environments.
  • Mid-to late-stage private company coupled with public company CFO experience is preferred – ideally with experience preparing and taking a company through an IPO.
  • Exceptional at developing, managing, and leading the full complement of financial, operational, and administrative responsibilities with direct experience managing IT, Human Resources and facilities/operations.
  • A career that demonstrates an outstanding ability to build and lead a high functioning finance team.
  • Well regarded within the financial community and comfortable and experienced interacting with the Board and investors.
  • Energizes staff with a sense of mission and purpose.
  • Clearly articulates business strategic intent and purpose.
