At the Geophysical Institute there is a vacant position as chief engineer for data management of worldwide carbon cycle data from all Earth system reservoirs of relevance for climate research (ocean, land and atmosphere).The term of employment for this position is from 1 May 2011 to 31 December 2012. The successful candidate will work on the compilation, quality control, analysis, synthesis, and interpretation of carbon cycle relevant data sets. Special emphasis will be placed on linking European derived data with global data networks. Experience with state-of-the-art climate data archiving systems (such as the World Data Centre network and the PANGAEA data base editorial system), long-term archiving and data retrieval, metadata information handling, graphical presentation of complex data sets, intellectual property right rules, and data management in interdisciplinary international research projects is necessary. Applicants must have a Norwegian master's degree in oceanography, meteorology, geography, geosciences, biology, physics, mathematics (or in other relevant natural sciences), or an equivalent education abroad.
