Chagos Environment Outreach Officer

ZSL Conservation Programmes is looking for an Outreach Officer based at ZSL offices, Regent’s Park who will manage the outreach team and create, deliver and evaluate a range of events to involve the Chagossian Community (initially in the UK) in preserving their natural heritage. The pilot project (2012) has started to raise environmental awareness and build capacity within the community for a greater and active involvement in the conservation of the Chagos Archipelago. The Outreach Officer’s main responsibilities will be to continue this community engagement and support previously trained Chagossians, coordinating all aspects of family fun days (London and Manchester), which will offer educational and fun activities for a wide range of audiences, as well as designing and coordinating a new environmental skills training course which will comprise of theory and practical elements focused on various aspects of marine and terrestrial conservation. The contract is full time and runs for a 1 year period, with potential for renewal. Applicants should have experience in working with communities and educational/outreach events, organisation and delivery. They must be fluent in French and/or Creole and be able to work some weekends.
