Under the auspices of the Sustainable Agriculture Network (SAN), an international coalition of leading conservation groups, the Rainforest Alliance’s Sustainable Agriculture Division works with farmers to ensure compliance with the SAN standards for protecting wildlife, farm land, workers’ rights and local communities. Farms that meet these rigorous environmental, ethical and economic standards are awarded the Rainforest Alliance Certified™ seal.

Position Summary: 

Under the supervision of the Standards and Policy Director, the Certification Systems Coordinator will support the SAN´s technical and operational goals by coordinating the application and improvement of the certification system, ensuring smooth operation of the SAN accreditation system for farms, producer groups and chain-of-custody and seeking the highest level of credibility for the certification system. S/he will serve as a key liaison on system processes and service quality, coordinating the development, publication and implementation of standards and policy documents, training on certification policies and supporting the functioning of the SAN accreditation system. Through regular contact with external organizations and other systems, s/he will also support the collaborations with other standards systems and ensure the SAN´s participation in voluntary standards comparison studies.

Responsibilties: 
  • Coordinate the development and application of standards and policy documents by coordinating with SAN stakeholders and staff. This includes document planning, drafting, review, publication as well as follow up and maintenance activities to ensure proper system-wide application and compliance;
  • Execute necessary plans, activities and system policy development and updates to ensure the proper functioning of the SAN accreditation system for farms, producer groups and chain-of-custody operations in origin countries in close collaboration with the Rainforest Alliance traceability team. This includes the monitoring of the application of SAN related policies, attending the SAN complaints and disputes system, the execution of quality monitoring activities to ensure the system´s credibility, coordination with SAN accredited certification bodies on rules and requirements and coordination with the SAN accreditation body;
  • In coordination with SAN staff develop plans and activities to expand operational integration with other standards systems and achieve cost and operational efficiencies for producers, other system stakeholders and operating bodies;
  • Gather and summarize certification system information as requested by external organizations and submit SAN contributions to certification system comparisons, research studies and other reports;
  • Conduct training activities on certification policies for SAN technical teams and certification bodies;
  • Provide support in SAN operational and administrative processes as necessary, ensuring maintenance of the SAN document registry, timely technical website updates and stakeholder communications, etc.; and
  • Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Natural Resource Management or related fields;
  • 5-7 years of experience working with certification systems technical and operational issues;
  • Excellent English and Spanish oral and written communications skills; French and Portuguese a plus;
  • Must have excellent computer and data management skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and database programs);
  • Must have good organizational skills, be able to work independently, and work under tight deadlines;
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communications skills; and
  • Ability to travel up to 20 percent domestically and/or internationally.
Salary: 

Commensurate with experience.
