SANCCOB, a leading marine conservation non-profit organization, seeks to employ a Centre Manager to join their dynamic team in Cape Recife, Gqeberha. The Centre Manager will be responsible for the overall management of the Gqeberha centre and its operations and will report to the Chief Executive Officer of SANCCOB.
Financial Management:
- Responsible for the financial management of SANCCOB Gqeberha
- To manage and be responsible for all financial aspects and internal controls of SANCCOB Gqeberha, including petty cash control, procurement of supplies and stock control, and including the submission of weekly reports to Head Office in Cape Town
- To develop and manage the SANCCOB Gqeberha annual financial budget
Human Resources and General Management:
- To effectively manage and develop staff at SANCCOB Gqeberha
- To effectively manage human resources, including leave control and any disciplinary proceedings
- To ensure that SANCCOB’s standard operating procedures are updated annually and adhered to
- To ensure good corporate governance is practiced and continuously developed and improved
- To actively participate and represent SANCCOB at stakeholder meetings
- To manage and oversee all aspects of centre maintenance
- To ensure that a health and safety management plan is in place and adhered to
Resource Development:
- To create and manage a sustainable and diverse fundraising portfolio, securing funds from individual givers, zoos & aquaria, trusts and foundations, corporates, government, stakeholders, major gifts, bequests and events
- To ensure that fundraising targets and deliverables are met
- To seek funding opportunities, write proposals and develop relationships with new donors and stakeholders
- To maintain relationships with current donors, suppliers and all stakeholders
- To implement and manage SANCCOB’s marketing activities and campaigns
- To effectively manage the merchandise and coffee shop
- To negotiate discounts and in-kind donations with suppliers
- To ensure donors feel appreciated and are updated regularly with news from the centre
- Responsible for regular reporting to donors, communicating the impact of their contributions
- To ensure that the strategic objectives of SANCCOB are met
Rehabilitation and Conservation:
- To oversee all aspects of seabird rescue, rehabilitation and release to ensure the highest quality of care is executed in line with SANCCOB best practice protocols
- Together with the research, conservation and rehabilitation departments develop and participate in seabird conservation and research projects as and when identified
- To assist the research team by providing relevant information from the Algoa Bay region
- Working closely with SANParks, oversee the management of the Seabird Ranger stationed on Bird Island, and all associated aspects relating to the project
- Remain informed to act as a spokesperson for SANCCOB Gqeberha
Disaster preparedness and response:
- To work with the Preparedness and Response Manager to ensure that the Gqeberha facility and staff are ready and able to respond to oil spills and disaster events
- Actively participate and represent SANCCOB in discussions relating to high-risk threats to seabirds in the Algoa Bay region, including but not limited to ship-to-ship bunkering
Education:
- To ensure quality educational programmes are offered
- To ensure the development and conducting of interactive public tours of the SANCCOB Gqeberha centre
- To grow the professional network between SANCCOB and other like-minded organisations
- To manage the SANCCOB volunteer and internship programme in Gqeberha
- To coordinate and align work activities with the SANCCOB Education Department in Cape Town
- To collaborate and maintain relationships with volunteer organisations and tour operators to further the reach of SANCCOB
- To ensure that the strategic objectives of SANCCOB are met
Requirements
Minimum qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree/diploma
- A post-graduate qualification will be an added advantage
Working experience:
- Previous exposure and experience in the NGO sector
- Minimum 5 years of general management working experience, including experience in people management and financial management
- Experience in seabird rehabilitation, natural science, education, marketing, basic maintenance, and fundraising an added advantage
