Salary $61,342.99 - $70,165.09 annually plus, 3.3% Temporary Market Adjustment

The Terrestrial Conservation Science Section of the Ecosystems Protection and Sustainability Branch has an exciting opportunity for a Carnivore Conservation Specialist in the Environmental 
Sustainability and Policy Division.

As the Carnivore Conservation Specialist, you have advanced ecological knowledge of the increasingly unique mammalian predator prey systems present within British Columbia. You understand all aspects of carnivore ecology including their habitats, conservation, and their importance in ecosystem sustainability. A highly skilled researcher and valued subject matter expert, you prepare science-based reports and documents such as ministry submissions, standards of practice, evaluation reports, and peer reviewed journal articles. Leading projects of provincial significance, you will enhance provincial, interprovincial and international conservation programs by combining your scientific background with your consideration of public interest. If you are a progressive and innovative professional who is interested in playing a significant role in conserving the unique diversity of mammalian carnivores in BC, then we look forward to your application.

You must be willing to travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions as required.

Qualifications:


To be considered for this position your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have the following: 

MSc. Degree in biological/ecological sciences plus, five years of relevant experience in North American mammalian predator prey systems or,

PhD plus two years of relevant experience in North American mammalian predator prey systems.

Registered as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology, or eligible to be registered as a Professional Biologist within six months of employment.

Experience developing, implementing and conducting field component of research projects or programs

Advanced scientific knowledge and experience working with one or more of the following carnivore groups:  felids, mustelids, canids or ursids.
