Job Purpose

  • Develop and design carbon and energy reduction solutions emphasizing improved operating and cost conditions, low carbon generating technologies, commercial analysis and delivery of implementation plans
  • Analyze and design energy systems to optimise energy efficiency in complex environments
  • Providing technical insight across all major energy efficiency technologies, microgeneration, community energy schemes, renewable energy, district heating/cooling and energy efficiency principals
  • Providing clients with expert technical and regulatory advice and commercial insight across the energy and carbon lifecycle, including carbon ‘footprints’ and Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) assessment.
  • To work across the Sustainable Energy team to provide support and delivery of the end to end value chain

Key Activities

  • Monitoring all relevant bodies, technology developments, regulatory and legislative changes and industry trends relating to sustainable, low and zero carbon energy provision and energy efficiency, to provide technical level insight and client support.
  • Undertake the technical aspects of our consultancy services; defining solutions that provide carbon and energy savings and costs for clients versus client targets or CRC objectives.
  • Review of energy consumption within our major B2B clients.
  • Site analysis and delivery of solution designs for onward delivery by other aspects of the E.ON’s Sustainable Energy team.
  • Contribution to planning and scoping of projects, including supporting clients with planning applications.
  • Identification of issues, risks, constraints and dependencies to those renewable, low and zero carbon projects.
  • Undertake report writing, tender submission, project management, feasibility studies, presentations and client meetings.
  • Present solutions as part of a team and provide credible, logical and confident responses to questions at a senior level within E.ON and our clients.
  • Build and develop positive relationships with clients, suppliers and other parts of E.ON.
  • Maintain and extend knowledge of UK and global sustainability agenda, strategy and policies.
  • Maintain a strong level of understanding and appreciation of carbon and energy reduction techniques and solutions.
  • To generate new ideas/insights and fresh approaches to client issues responding to changing environmental legislation and new technology developments.
  • Write compelling commercial proposals, capturing the essence of the client problem and providing actionable solutions.
  • Identify further opportunities within key account client for added value for the Sustainable Energy Business and work to extend or deepen our relationship with those clients.
  • To analyse complex data and extract essential insights in order to identify potential consulting solutions and establish priorities for key strategic accounts.
  • To provide a logical, coherent and consistent approach to solving problems and identifying consulting opportunities.

Key skill requirements

  • First degree in an electrical or mechanical engineering discipline or energy engineering related.
  • Qualification to Masters Degree level (or equivalent experience) in a related and appropriate discipline would be advantageous but not essential.
  • CIBSE Low Carbon Energy Assessor or similar, or demonstrable experience to suggest this could be attained with support from E.ON.
  • High level knowledge of sustainable, low and zero carbon principals, technologies, issues, market mechanisms, regulations, legislation and development of the same within the built environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, influencing and presentation skills with the ability to take a confident and diplomatic approach with staff, colleagues, senior managers and stake-holders.
  • Core project management and governance skills.
  • High level analytical skills including ability to identify key parameters; collate results; and draw useful insights at a strategic level and onward communication at client level.
  • Knowledge, ability and tenacity to deliver strategic level commercial and technical insight and profitable recommendations across a broad scope of energy industry market mechanisms, whether related to technology, funding, regulation, customer adoption or government targets.
  • A pro-active and creative approach to problem solving.
