Description

The Carbon Capture Policy Specialist will be a member of the Carbon Capture & Storage Program team at CATF reporting to the two Program Co-Directors. The Specialist will primarily support the CCS Program Directors in developing and implementing CCS policy advocacy strategy. In addition, the associate will be responsible to build and maintain CCS program’s external presence including in press, social media and other channels by developing communication & content plan and implementing it. 

 Location: US, flexible  

 Responsibilities: 

  1. Support policy advocacy:
    • Support CCS Program Directors in developing CCS policy advocacy strategy by developing expertise in evaluating CCS policies and their impact based on CATF’s policy framework.
    • Support federal policy advocacy and outreach to policymakers and staff in Congress, peer NGOs and private sector companies through organizing meetings and ensuring dedicated follow-up as needed.
  2. Identifying advocacy and messaging communication needs:
    • Systematically stay abreast of carbon capture, removal, and storage news and developments in the media, through events, webinars, report releases as well as on social media (for instance twitter discussions on current topics) 
    • Build and maintain a stakeholder map and key messaging in the CCS space as an internal resource. 
    • Identify specific needs for external communication and engagement through research and through discussions with CCS experts at CATF and externally.
    • Represent CATF’s CCS program in coalition communication meetings. 
  3. Implementing communication plans and projects:
    • Project manage timely, effective and innovative content development by collaborating with experts internally at CATF, and with external stakeholders as needed (such as peer NGOs, coalition participants, or academic experts) as well as managing creative agency/consultants as needed for implementation. 
    • Collaborate with others at CATF to innovate on and implement cross-program content.
    • Keep up to date the CCS program page on the website with content such as achievements, and latest resources.  

 The ideal candidate will have:  

  1. An undergraduate degree in a relevant field. 
  2. Proven skills and experience working in a high-functioning team, managing a suite of relevant projects with tight deadlines. 
  3. Strong understanding of US federal climate and clean energy policy and of typical advocacy processes such as working in coalitions, hosting briefings, writing position statements and so on. 
  4. Strong knowledge about carbon capture, use, and storage (CCUS), and direct air capture (DAC); interest and curiosity to learn about international efforts, in particular in Europe, a plus.  
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  6. Strong networking and relationship building skills.
