Camp Manager / Lecturer

We are currently recruiting camp managers for our research sites at various locations around the world. We have vacancies available for between 4-8 weeks within the period of June to early August 2019.

OUTLINE

Operation Wallacea (Opwall - https://www.opwall.com/about-opwall/) is a conservation research organisation that is funded by, and relies on, teams of student volunteers who join expeditions for the opportunity to work on real-world research programmes alongside academic researchers. To date, Opwall research has led to the publication of over 440 peer reviewed papers.

Camp managers are responsible for the day to day running of field camps, including maintaining regular communications with the main base camp, ordering supplies and ensuring the science teams have the guides and equipment needed to run surveys. Applicants should have experience of working in the field, good communication and organisational skills and preferably a biological background. Some field sites are remote, facilities are basic and the environments are challenging so experience of similar conditions are favourable. Please highlight any relevant outdoor leadership qualifications. The ability to speak Spanish is a must for some of our site locations.

Some camp manager positions will involve delivering a prepared conservation lecture series to university and school students, assisting incoming groups in survey methodologies, designing and facilitating student workshops, presentations and other interactive learning tasks. Applicants interested in these roles should have an MSc or higher in conservation or related area and preferably teaching and field experience. In some destinations Lecturer is a separate role.

Worldwide locations available including Fiji, Indonesia, Croatia, Tanzania, Malawi, Dominica, Ecuador, Guyana, Honduras, Madagascar, Mexico, Peru, South Africa and Transylvania.

Contracts run for 4-8 weeks during the months of June, July and August. Exact dates are dependent on the specific country schedule. Positions are voluntary but includes full accommodation and food onsite, networking and skills development and flight bursaries for more experienced applicants.
