is seeking for proposals from local research or academic institutions in

Ethiopia to conduct experimentation and trials on animal and bamboo feed

and fodder in the country. The objective of this assignment is to assess

the nutritional composition or proximate analysis, and the optimal feeding

rate of bamboo leaves as fodder, and to determine the harvesting methods

of bamboo leaves to maximise leaf production for wet and dry seasons. The

assessment will consist of a literature review and the application of qualitative

and quantitative research methods to collect both primary and secondary

data. The selected institution is expected to execute the following tasks

Specific Tasks

To determine and characterise the nutritional quality of bamboo fodder (different

species – wet and dry season) compared to other feed sources

To evaluate the effects of supplementing bamboo fodder on feed intake, body

weight gain, milk yield and milk compositions

To determine the consumption patterns and digestibility of bamboo fodder

To assess the growth and health (using haematological indicators and serum

biochemistry) of experimental animal fed with bamboo leaves either as a

sole feed or feed supplement

Undertake plant experimentation to evaluate different harvesting methods

of bamboo leaves aimed at maximising fodder yield to development of women-friendly

bamboo fodder management systems

To evaluate the profitability of bamboo leaves by employing partial budget

analysis
