Description

Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. Where people use their optimism and talent to achieve more than anyone thought possible.

Nobody personifies this more than Haylea Navarro. Born with cerebral palsy and paralysed down one side since birth, Haylea has been gleefully proving people wrong ever since. Now a project officer, she brings faster broadband connectivity to Westminster businesses, boosting the economy for all. Throw in her gong at the 2020 London Apprenticeship Awards, and it’s clear for all to see just what can happen when you never give in.

Please view the extraordinary story of Haylea’s Unbeatable Spirit here.

The Role:

As a Business Engagement & Project Officer in our Green Economy team, you can make your own powerful contribution. Undertaking the day-to-day engagement, you’ll coordinate and deliver our first grant programme enabling businesses and voluntary and community organisations to adapt their premises to reduce emissions, make energy savings and build a fairer and greener economy.

Our economy has a huge role to play in addressing the climate emergency, and in this role, you’ll help to bring environmental sustainability to the forefront of our economic development approach.

No two days will be the same; from engaging individual businesses on what retrofit will mean for them, to running a workshop for social enterprises to apply for a grant, to meeting with internal colleagues on grant approvals and providing briefings for Cabinet Members and senior leadership. This innovative programme is now at implementation stage and this role will be coordinating the small initial pilot. Technical colleagues will be on hand to advise.

A third-party specialist carbon footprint contractor is in place to produce free assessments/surveys for every business that needs one. Your role will be to coordinate all these parts so the programme can mobilise quickly.

About You:

We are looking for someone who is organised, able to work efficiently and can engage directly with business owners, has ideas about promoting the programme and can help navigate the pathway to net zero for our economy.

You’ll be a natural communicator, with the ability to establish and build effective working relationships with colleagues and agencies at all levels of the council and beyond. With good project delivery, procurement, contract management and budgeting skills, you’ll be highly competent in planning and delivery. Most importantly, you’ll be a person passionate about contributing to the development of a greener economy.

We are open to different skills and knowledge. You might be someone who:

-    has strong engagement and project management skills and would like to move into the green economy in which case technical knowledge-giving will be part of your induction, with colleagues on hand to advise throughout.
-    or you might have technical knowledge and enjoy putting this into practical use to coordinate a route to retrofit for businesses and community organisations
-    or you might excel at community and/or business engagement and outreach and want to use your skills to provide strong high level project management on retrofit signposting and grant programme coordination.

Please note: The role is initially until 31st March 2025 and funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund
