Description

Improving and protecting the environment is a core aim of The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). As a forward-thinking team, we are constantly looking for ways in which we can do more to protect the natural environment. The challenges we face are complex yet deeply interesting, with our remit extending from water and air quality through to mitigating natural threats and hazards. We are also responsible for supporting the UK's food and farming industries, and enhancing our rural economy. Join us in this fascinating work, and you will be exposed to career-defining projects with immense scope for personal and professional development.

We are currently at an exciting point in our development, as we are transforming our capabilities with a number of ambitious projects relating to IT systems, infrastructure, business transformation, organisational change, legislation and policy implementation. The success of these projects will determine the way in which we are delivering government policy, so your input will ultimately have an impact on the environment, the rural economy, food sustainability and our net zero ambitions.

While every day will present you with new challenges, your overall brief will be to help us align our business strategy and the overall service vision with user and business needs. You will therefore:

  • Act as the bridge between our current and future business models, ensuring proposed solutions are evidence-based, and constructively challenge where appropriate.
  • Take responsibility for gathering research, and using a range of tools and techniques to evaluate and develop business requirements, you will determine how we can successfully make these transitions.
  • Work with key stakeholders to identify the potential consequences of proposed change, evaluating the pros and cons of each option. You will then work with business and technical leads to help us determine the actions we need to take to bring these ideas to life.
  • Ensure every proposed change is underpinned by a fully auditable process. As such you will assist with the production of everything from frameworks through to business cases and defect analysis.

This is a great opportunity to take your career to the next level. To be equal to the challenge you will therefore have a background of working as a Project Manager or within a project environment. With the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders, you will have comprehensive influencing and verbal and written communication skills. With good knowledge of planning, risk and issue management, quality management and change control, you will be able to apply your analysis skills to a wide range of tasks including business case development, benefits management and knowledge management.

As a member of our ambitious team, you will find plenty of stimulating projects and initiatives in which to immerse yourself. We are therefore confident that you will find a unique working environment, underpinned by exceptional ongoing training and development opportunities. We will also support you with a contributory pension scheme, generous annual leave, salary sacrifice options, staff bonuses and a variety of employee discounts.
